technical difficulties

We are experiencing some technical difficulties over here on the blog and we are trying to quickly to get it all figured out.

First, was my subscribe button to the left.. it was telling people they were successfully UNsubscribed when they had tried subscribing.  It should have subscribed you anyway and we have fixed that little quirk…

Upon learning of that though, I found out that my “contact me” page had been sending my messages to my junk mail box for I don’t know how long!  I had about 20 emails in there from April alone and couldn’t go back any further than that.  AH!  I could seriously cry over this.  I try really hard to respond to each and every email I get, so if you wrote me and haven’t gotten a response  - PLEASE – email me again!  I love hearing from you!

We are doing everything we can to get things running smoothly again.  So sorry for any inconvenience!

Hope you still love me,

recharge

Today I am recouping from our vacation.

We were greeted by a super windy, blustery day.  The wind kept most of us up all night!  It’s crazy over here.

I like to think of that as God’s little way of telling me to take a day off today.  Stay in those sweat pants.  Don’t even think about washing that hair.

I’ll take it. ;)

We had such a fun vacation.  Lots of relaxing and fun times spent with my sister.  Lots of good conversation.  Lots of California sun.  It felt wonderful!

I can’t wait to sort through our vacation pictures and get them posted.

Tomorrow, though.  Today God told me to take the day off, remember?

throw back thursday

I’ve been going through some of my old work lately and it’s been a fun little adventure.  I thought I’d start posting a throw back here every once in a while just for fun. :) This is my little Stella Bean at 8 months old.  Has anyone been following me long enough to remember these days? Such happy memories from this time!

Happy Thursday, y’all!

a quick little update

Hi Friends!

I haven’t had as much time here this week as I would like to but I am working on some fun new projects that I’m excited to share.

As most of you have noticed, there have been some changes here at cassmillerblog.com since the days that I just shared my photo work.  With these changes have brought so much fun and opportunity to my life and I am so excited about this new chapter in my business.  The blog is truly a piece of my heart and I’m so happy to share it with the beautiful souls to tune in daily (or weekly, or monthly) and share with me a piece of themselves.

I can’t forget about my first love, photography, though and I am working my little tail off trying to make my photo work and my blog life coexist in a better way.

Along with the whole redesign of this space, we have also merged this blog with my first blog that I have religiously written on to document my growing family.  For four years I have kept my photography and personal blog separate but now, here in one place you can find our life beginning in ’08.  So if you haven’t had quite enough of the Millers, you can check us out on the archives.  Sometimes I roll my eyes or laugh at older posts I’ve written.. I’ve grown and changed so much in these last 5 years, but I can’t tell you what a gift it is to have all those memories written down for me and my family.  If you don’t have a blog, seriously consider starting one.  It’s such an amazing way to document your family.. and it’s easy!  Even if no one reads it, you should be journaling your family as the days go by.  You will not regret it!

I am also now offering online mentoring for everyone and anyone who would like a piece of my brain for a few hours.  I have focused this mentoring on photoshop whether completely beginner or a seasoned pro who would like to know the tricks up my sleeve, but I can definitely chat business, blogging and camera in these sessions as well.  I hope to modify them to each of my mentoree’s needs. :) Photography is something I have such a passion for and I would love nothing more than to share that with anyone who would like to learn. You check out the info HERE. (or see it located at the top tabs of this blog under MENTORING)

Along with the growth of this blog, I am now offering page sponsors.  If you have a blog or shop that you think my readers would enjoy, check out my sponsoring page HERE.  This is one way I have grown my blog and I’m really excited to be adding this element to my own space.  My current sponsors that you can check out over there >>> are amazing!  If you like my blog, I have a feeling you’ll love theirs.  I am hoping to get more shops and more goodies for my readers to enjoy and hopefully spread the word about some awesome people in the biz.

As a way for me to spend as much time with my growing babies as possible, I am currently only booking lifestyle family and birth sessions.  There will be more info available on this very soon but I am also offering a special price to my spring & summer sessions.

Booked now through March, studio mini sessions are $225, birth story sessions are on special for $400!

Thanks to each of you for loving and supporting me so well!

The end of an era.

This weekend, my love finally took me to see Breaking Dawn part 2.

Am I the only one who gets seriously depressed about a series ending?  I can’t tell you how many books I haven’t finished the last chapter in because I’m too sad about it ending.  I get attached to the characters and their stories.  Are you embarrassed for me that I’m telling you this right now?

But the ending of the Twilight Saga is bittersweet… mostly bitter, but a little sweet.  I read all the books in the last part of my pregnancy and into new mommyhood.  Every time I see a a movie or listen to the soundtrack (what?)  it takes me right back to that place.  Such a sweet sweet time in my life.  I remember going to the first movie (two days before I delivered Harlo) and thinking, “in the last movie.. I’m going to have a four year old!” it seemed so weird then.  It seemed so far away!  And here I am…  It was a simpler time, before everyone got all “50 shades”.

So here’s to the end of the sweet love story of Bella and Edward (Oh, Edward, my sweet!)

Is anyone else mourning the loss?

ha.

Bloglovin’.

Do y’all know about bloglovin’?

It’s my latest obsession.

Here’s why it’s awesome for everyone.

Pretty much, it’s an organized place for you to follow the blogs of your choice, and it will send you an email (right away or just once a day) with all your favorite bloggers who have posted that day.  No more scattered bookmark lists, no more ‘what was that blog I found that one time and loved again?’ You can simply follow your fave blogs on bloglovin’ and it’s all there for your viewing/reading pleasure.  Instantly.

Here’s why it’s awesome for bloggers.

As a blogger, it can get a little lonely over here on this side.  On instagram, you know who’s following you.  On facebook, you know who your friends are and who ‘likes’ you.  On pinterest, you know who wants to keep up with your impeccable internet style.  But blogs.. following often gets overlooked.  Unless you comment on my posts, I have no idea if you’re here besides the stats I get emailed to me every month, but in that case you’re only a number.  Bloglovin’ helps us know who’s keepin’ up with us.

If you like a blog, you should follow it.  Following says,

I support you in what you’re doing here on this little space of the WWW.  I like what you have to say, and I like looking at the pictures you post.

It gives us bloggers a thumbs up and sometimes in this lonely world of little feedback, we need that.  I like to know you’ve been here.  I like to know what posts you like and why you like them.  I like to know what you want to hear more about.  If you want to get to know me, believe me, I want to get to know you too.

If you’d like to follow me or support me on this blog, here are a few ways to do it:

If you’re new here or come here often, comment and introduce yourself!  I try to always respond to any questions I get asked, so feel free to question away.
Check out my bloglovin’  HERE and follow me if you’d like.
Sometimes I post extra pictures or sneak peeks to facebook, so if you’re a fan of my photography, you can find me HERE.
If you love my little ladies and want to see more of our daily lives, Instagram is the place for you.  Find me HERE or @cassmiller
If you want to keep up with my latest style, Pinterest might be more your style.  Follow HERE.

Isobel from holdenonbaby and my amazing web designer added these fabulous frames to the left <<< with links to all my social networking so you can follow me anytime you like.

Reguardless of following me, you should check out bloglovin’.  They’re packed full of beautiful blogs and awesome reads.  You’ll thank me later. ;)

Notice anything new?

So I have been pretty much dying for this exact day to come.  As you have already probably noticed, I have been working with an amazing designer to completely re-vamp my whole site.  When I started this blog 2 years ago, I really had no idea where it would lead me.  I’m so happy with where I am today and I was ready to celebrate by giving this little ol’ blog a makeover.

Lauren Isobel is the very fashionable writer over at holdenonbaby.  We met somewhere in blog land and when I landed on her blog, I noticed how impeccably it was designed.  I had been looking for a blog designer and messaged her.  Turns out she does everything herself and has started taking on design clients like myself.  We started emailing back and forth and I knew she was the perfect lady for the job.  I wanted this blog to be a true reflection of me, because that’s exactly what I write about.  I wanted my blog to reflect how I decorate my home, with prints and color and personality.  Because this place is home to me.  The first mock-up she designed for me was pretty much utter perfection!  She totally got who I was and what I wanted to do and she has been nothing short of a dream to work with.  DREAM.  If you are in the blog design market, I would highly recommend Isobel!

We’ve added a lot of fun stuff to the blog, so go have a look around and tell me what you think!  We’re still tweaking it into perfection, so be patient with us over the next few days as we get everything going.

Did I mention I’m excited?!

Simple Solutions

This week at the Miller home, we’re working on seriously simplifying.  I can’t tell you how fun of a project this has been and how rewarding it already is.  I thought I’d jot down what I started with and how things are going.

The first thing I started with is purging our closets.  Laundry was on the top of the list of things I hated, and things that took up the most amount of time.  Also, my house can get to be a disaster, and what causes the most mess?  Clothes!  My children love to change their clothes throughout the day, and rather than picking that battle, I’ve decided to get proactive about the clothing situation.

I went through all our wardrobes and picked 2 weeks worth of our favorite outfits.  My girls are pretty picky about what they wear.  They always want to wear dresses, and each circle through the same few.  That was easy.  I picked their favorites that they would wear, purged the rest.

For me, I picked the outfits that made me feel the best, ones that I could pair together to mix and match different ways and got rid of everything else.
I’m talking, I filled our guest-room closet and our coat closet with my clothes alone.  I kept about 13 shirts, 2 dresses and a few pairs of pants and skirts.

First week in and I can’t believe the difference in laundry and piles of clothes to be sorted through.  I feel as if I’ve just solved the world’s problems!

Next is a time schedule.. can I keep it?  Stay tuned!

Our week in instagrams

Hello! We made it home from Oceanside.  We had a wonderful time, ate lots of great food and spent countless hours together doing whatever the heck we wanted! It was wonderful. I also took some beautiful photos out there that I can’t wait to post! :D

Two things today:
One, have you heard of instaport? GENIUS! You can export all your photos from instagram right to your computer.  It’s fast, free, and super easy.  I have a firm lover of instagram.  I will write an official love-post to it one day, but today is not that day.  However, if you would like to follow me (please do!) You can find my stuff somewhere over there.  —–>>

The second thing seems to escape me at the moment, so we’ll have to come back to that one later I guess.

Oh! wait.. I got it.  The new iphone4 software update.  Do you have it?  It’s pretty awesome.  Except for it kind of royally screwed up my phone there for a bit, so I would recommend backing-up your phone first. (and backing up your phone pretty much everyday is a good suggestion… says Mr. Milla) But royally screwed up phones don’t bother me much because I have that Darling Mr. that stays up to the wee hours of the night to fix it for me.  What a good catch he is! Swoon…

Anyway, here is our week in instagrams:
This week I’m continuing to work on simplifying, being present and just overall being happier.  I’ll tell you what I’ve done so far later this week.

Have a happy Monday, you dear sweet souls.

xo, Cass

Just a few things

  1. The Flood
Oh my heart is heavy for those poor, poor people affected.  I’m having a hard time doing anything but imagining what my house would look like if it was shoulder-deep in muddy water.  Or in my case, over-the-head-deep.  Because I’m only 5’3.

Someone said, “it was shoulder deep! about 5 feet” and I thought “who’s shoulder is 5 feet high?”  certainly not mine.

Quirky thoughts aside, it’s a serious devastation.

  2. A clean house
Is it possible?  Is it really, really possible?  I mean like no laundry, no dishes in the sink, floors are all clean and toilets are all scrubbed at one time.
    Is it possible????

If you’re my sister-in-law, Amy, it is.  But is it possible for anyone else?

This thought keeps me up at night.

  3. Editing o’plenty
Is what I have to do all weekend.
Sometimes I try to keep my house clean (see number 2) and that means I have to neglect my editing.

    Eventually, it catches up.

  4.  Time.
Certainly, a mother did not create time.  If she would have, we would have 100 hours to the day and only 10 of those would require sleep.

  5. Domestic Goddess-hood.
Yesterday while Harlo was at preschool, Stella and I braved the grocery store for the mother-of-all grocery load.

Then we had frozen pizza for dinner because I was exhausted.

And that’s all I have to say about that.

And if you’re wondering how I took a 2 year old shopping with me,

Donuts.
Works like a charm!

I’m so glad we had this little chat.

Do you have any fun weekend plans?  Do share!

xo, C

Simplify.

I can’t quite explain how important this blog has been to my life.

Our entire life story is right here, on the seemingly never-ending pages of this blog.

This blog has been a good friend to me, it has been therapy, it has kept me going as a mother and as a wife.  It has kept me in touch with family and friend who love us and who would never have been able to experience life with us aside from here.

I created this blog to keep in touch with family, and never in my wildest dreams would I have known how much inspiration, hope and growth would come from it.  People know me from this blog, people have been inspired by my words on this blog.  I have gotten the most touching, heart warming messages and letters from my dear friends and followers of this blog.  This blog has been a critical part of my story and that is priceless to me.  I believe I have become a better mother and a better person through this blog.

With how much our life is changing and growing, and how opportunities keep coming our way, I have made a major decision to simplify.  I have been posting to my professional page, all things professional.  I have posted all my personal stuff here, but the two blogs have taken a lot of precious time.  As my business and family continue to grow, I feel strongly the time has come to condense parts of my life.  After much praying and thinking and waiting, I have decided to post strictly (at least for now) on my new and improved site,

It’s a bit scary, and it’s extremely bittersweet.  But I truly feel this is what I’m supposed to be doing right now in my life, and I believe it will help me to enjoy the things I love most in this life and that I will have more time to write about and share those things.

It’s a little scary! This place has been safe to me, I’ve trusted to write about such personal things here and posting it somewhere else seems a little foreign.  I hope that you will all follow me over there and maybe leave me words of encouragement or support me somehow through this transition in my life.  Nerves aside, I’m really excited about these changes.

I have truly poured my heart and soul into this blog.  My life as a wife started here, my life as a mother started here, my life as photographer started here.  I am hoping to step things up and challenge myself to write more.  Because I love it, because I think my children will someday love it, and because through writing my story, I have grown so so much.

So if you wish to continue to follow our story, please update my link to this one. :)  http://cassmillerblog.com/

And most importantly, thank you to all my sweet followers/friends.  You have touched my lives in so many ways.  Thank you, thank you, for following us on our journey.

Family Photos – NEW BLOG

Last June, a year ago right now, we had our family pictures taken by the wonderful (and now very famous), Yan.
I have loved Yan’s work for years and I snagged a family session with her just right before she moved from Utah to Colorado.  I’m so glad we did!  The trip turned out to be a little crazy, but one I’ll always remember.  We had an almost-one-year-old and a two year old that year.  Our hands were completely full and while there was never a second to sit back and enjoy it, we did.  Very much.

The weeks before this session, I had a nagging feeling to get our pictures done.  I wanted us to be captured with our lives exactly as they were right then.  In my emails to Yan, I remember writing, “I think I’m in the happiest time in my entire life, and I really want that documented.”  A year later, looking back at these, it all makes so much sense to me.  I really was in the happiest time of my life when these images were taken.

This was the very last weekend that I nursed my baby.  She had been gradually getting more and more independent and finally, she broke my heart when she was just too busy to sit back and nurse from her mama.  I didn’t get any shots of us nursing at this session. (I think Yan wanted to pull her hair out the second we walked through the door) but these images will always remind me of that time.  The time that started such a big transition in our life.

Oh boy!

Look what this little miss has been up to today….

I’m not the least bit ready, but that’s not stopping her.  Starting last night she’s insisted on going on the potty and hasn’t looked back.  Wish us luck!

Home Sweet Home

Well, we made it home from our California adventures! We had such a good time spending some quality bonding time with our little family.  No work, no rushing here or there, no errands.. just good ol’ fun in the sun.  It sounds funny, but this was our first real family vacation with just our little family.  (although we did sneak in as much Auntie time as possible) We’ve never stayed by ourselves somewhere away from home and while we had more time together than we knew what to do with, we enjoyed it thoroughly!

Highlights of the trip:
Putting the babies to bed and having some alone time with Mr. Miller’s snuggle and a few good books.
Drinking coffee on the beautiful furnished deck, overlooking the bay.
Being a hop, skip and a jump away from Chipotle (my favorite!!)
Enjoying the beach time, both in Newport with our family and in Oceanside with Auntie
IKEA
Enjoying the uninterrupted company of my love, Mr. Miller

Low points of the trip:
Lack of sleeping of the girls on the car ride both to and from. They fell asleep just as we pulled out of town on the way there.. slept alllll the way to Mesquite (30 minutes into our 7 hour drive) on the way home we left late thinking they would just crash out… NOPE.  Stayed up the entire time til just after Vegas and slept the last hour (at 2am!)
Stella learning to climb out of her pack n’ play!!!! Whatever are we going to do??? (but a high point was being able to rock her in my arms every night before bed = HEAVEN!)

So I was sort of hoping that Stella would forget about the whole climbing out of the p-n-p incident and not even try it in her crib… wrong-o!  The second we put her in bed last night and closed the door, we heard a thud.

I have no idea what to do with the wild child because she is SO not ready for a big girl bed, in my opinion. (but I kept my first baby in her crib til 3 and a half, so maybe I’m crazy…) Again, the high point is that she will FINALLY fall asleep in my arms, something I tried diligently to make her do since the day she was born, but even at days old, as soon as she was falling into slumber she would wiggle uncomfortably in my arms until I’d lay her down.  (Are my children freaks of nature? They wont ever sleep with us!)

So now our routine has changed from laying her in her crib with no problem, to “I-holjew, mama” (I hold you, mama) where I lay her on my shoulder and rock her until she’s completely and blissfully asleep and then I hesitantly lay her down in her crib.

Call me crazy, but I swear I’ll do this until she’s 16 if she lets me.  I love it! It feeds the mama in me like nothing else does.

Here are a few quick snippets from our trip (via iphone camera)

us on our first sunset of vacation

 in Carlsbad with Auntie
I just couldn’t get enough of this flower wall!
 Our little Peeping Tom
The girls dancing away in our condo
My Stelly Babe, ready to hit the waves (she barely took this hat off the whole trip.. and since we’ve been home)
Artichoke and crab leg dinner at the condo (our favorite Newport meal)
Breakfast with the Queens (notice Stelly’s hat)
 Sisters
 Sisters
My Stelly Babe sitting in an in-n-out, somewhere between the ocean and the desert, much past her bedtime. (with a chocolate milk stain on her wife beater, no less!)

So, what can I say?  The trip was a complete and utter success!  But I must admit, pulling into our little desert haven, lights sparkling in the wee hours of the night with two sleeping babies in the back of our mini van, I felt a warmth wash over me like fresh sheets from the dryer.  We’re home.
