Welcome To The World | St. George Birth Photographer

A few nights ago I got to document sweet little Beckam’s journey into this world.  I have plenty more where these came form, but for now, here’s a little teaser for his beautiful mama!

Beckam is the sweetest little thing with the proudest parents around.  I can’t wait to see him again for his newborns this week!! :D

Isn’t he the sweetest?

Thanks for looking!

Mother, oh Mother, come shake out your cloth
empty the dustpan, poison the moth,
hang out the washing and butter the bread,
sew on a button and make up a bed.
Where is the mother whose house is so shocking?
She’s up in the nursery, blissfully rocking.

Oh, I’ve grown shiftless as Little Boy Blue
(lullaby, rockaby, lullaby loo).
Dishes are waiting and bills are past due
(pat-a-cake, darling, and peek, peekaboo).
The shopping’s not done and there’s nothing for stew
and out in the yard there’s a hullabaloo
but I’m playing Kanga and this is my Roo.
Look! Aren’t her eyes the most wonderful hue?
(lullaby, rockaby, lullaby loo).

The cleaning and scrubbing will wait till tomorrow,
for children grow up, as I’ve learned to my sorrow.
So quiet down, cobwebs. Dust go to sleep.
I’m rocking my baby and babies don’t keep.

(Photo of me and Stella taken by Brady in May 2011)
The last time I tried to nurse my baby was just after we had gotten back from our trip to Salt Lake. We had gotten the girls settled into their beds, but my little Stella was restless from the long ride home. I went into her room, picked her up and settled into her nursery rocking chair. I offered it to her, and she fought away. Getting more upset the more I persisted. I rocked her for a minute and she was still not calming down so I walked out of her room and the minute she saw her dad she nearly leaped out of my arms into his. I had no warning before tears burst out of my eyes. My mama’s girl and my sweet little baby had grown up right before my very eyes. Ignoring my every attempt to keep her small just one more day. To have this time with my baby for just a while longer. I cried for a few hours just dealing with all of the emotions. I felt sad, and hurt, and proud, and lonely all at the same time. It was hard for me.
The next several weeks I longed to turn the clock down just a little. bit. slower. It seemed I couldn’t catch up with anything now that my baby had grown so suddenly from my womb, out of my arms. I really mourned that loss of divine mother/daughter bonding time that only nursing can offer.
But I now realize that while our relationship is changing and growing, and some things Stella doesn’t need me for, like her sole nutrition, she still relies on me for all sorts of other things. I still provide her all her meals, even if that means I’m cooking and preparing them. I still bond with her, even if rather than rocking her skin to skin all through the day, I’m laughing and dancing with her and chasing her around the house. And while I rocked her for her nap today, I sang to her the song I’ve been singing to her since she was in my womb. I felt the weight of her body in my arms, I watched as her eyes became so heavy they finally gave way. And I realized that no matter how old she is, or how busy she gets, I will always be her mama.

Bryn Sneak Peek | St. George Childrens Photographer

I had the funnest day ever, playing with Miss Bryntlee who is turning 5 really soon.  What a little character she is!  This is my very favorite way to photograph kids.  Bryn directed the entire session herself. :)
Here is just a small peek at her fun session.

Meet The Strate Family | North County San Diego Photographer

I am a photographer.  And more than that, I am an artist who uses photography as my form of art.  Photography feeds my soul in ways I can’t explain.  It is my work, and my hobby.  It’s how I pay the bills, and what I need to keep me sane.  It’s my occupation, and it’s my way of life.  I feel so lucky to have people trust me to what I love to do, and invite me into their families.  I really have the coolest clients, ever!  I have met some amazing people.

I had such a fun time with this family.  Adriana and I have been emailing back and forth for quite a few months now.  Her family lives in San Diego and at first she was trying to plan a trip to St. George for her session.  At around the same time, my sister moved to Oceanside and I decided to try to schedule sessions out there so I could go visit more often.  On our last trip to California, I let Adriana know we were coming and they were free that weekend so it worked out perfect to do their session at their neighborhood vineyard.  It was such a nice night at such a beautiful place.  Their session could not have gone better.  Gavin is one of the sweetest and smartest kids I’ve met.  It was so nice to just hang out with their great little family for the evening.  Adriana is as sweet as she is beautiful.
